This policy explains how Re:Context uses cookies and similar storage technologies when you visit recontext-japan.com.
We align our practices with the principles of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) globally to ensure a high standard of privacy protection.
Core terms
Cookies. Small text files stored on your device by your browser.
Local storage. Browser storage that keeps data until manually cleared.
Consent Mode. Google's interface for honouring analytics and advertising consent choices.
GDPR Alignment. We apply privacy practices consistent with the GDPR worldwide.
How we use storage
Essential
Remember dark/light theme preference, back-navigation context, your consent selections, and (when present) that a browser-level Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal has disabled optional storage.
Measure aggregate traffic trends via GA4 configured with Consent Mode v2.
When you do not consent, only cookieless pings are sent for basic, aggregated reporting.
When you consent, GA4 may use first-party cookies for analytics.
Storage: Cookies + local storage (on consent)
Default: Off until you opt in
Retention: 14 months (current GA4 setting; Consent Mode options are 2 or 14 months)
Legal basis: Explicit consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a))
Third parties: Google LLC (US) – Privacy Policy. We do not load AdSense scripts until you opt in.
Supporter tools
Enable the on-site Ko-fi supporter modal and activate future affiliate links (e.g., Amazon Associates).
Without this consent, the Ko-fi button behaves as a normal outbound link (new tab) and affiliate links remain inactive.
Storage: Local storage + gated embeds (Ko-fi); third-party cookies may be set after clicking external affiliate links (e.g., Amazon)
Default: Off until you opt in
Retention: Until manually cleared (local); third-party retention per provider
We do not sell or share personal data for cross-context behavioural advertising.
We do not set advertising or remarketing cookies ourselves.
However, third-party services we use — such as Google AdSense, Google Analytics, Ko-fi, and Amazon Associates —
may use cookies or similar technologies for advertising or analytics in accordance with their own privacy policies.
Where your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, optional cookies are automatically disabled unless and until you choose otherwise via our consent controls.
Managing consent
On first visit you will see a privacy modal. Everything except essential storage is disabled by default. Use Allow all, Save choices, or Reject optional to continue browsing.
You can reopen the modal through the Cookie link in the footer or the same control inside this page. Changes take effect immediately and are stored in your browser.
Ko-fi buttons behave as normal outbound links by default. When supporter tools are enabled you also unlock an on-site modal experience.
Amazon affiliate links are disabled by default. When supporter tools are enabled and you click an Amazon link, Amazon may set an affiliate cookie (typically up to 24 hours; carted items may remain eligible longer per Amazon policy).
You can withdraw your consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal.
If your browser sends a GPC signal, the consent modal opens with optional categories already off. You can still opt in manually if you wish.
Consent records
Your browser stores detailed records of your consent choices for GDPR compliance. These records include:
Timestamp of consent with timezone information
Your choices for each cookie category
Anonymous user identifier for audit purposes
Consent expiry date (12 months from consent)
Browser and language information for compliance verification
Time zone (IANA name) used to record the consent event
Consent records are stored locally in your browser and are not transmitted to our servers. You can view them in your browser’s developer tools under localStorage.
